No matter if you're just starting out or need to update your current kitchen sets, there are a few must have items for the busiest room in the house. With a few choice selections your kitchen will run like a fine tuned machine, without the high price tag.
Start off with a medium size sauce pan for everyday use and a non-stick skillet for your amazing egg omelet. You will also want a decent size stockpot for pasta's and other boiling needs. A complete cookware set will require a baking sheet with a raised rim for cookies and you guessed it meats. If you tend to mix up soups and braises you may also want to invest in a Dutch oven, which is very versatile and useful in an assortment of recipes.
Non Stick Cookware
Possibly one of the most important and often overlooked kitchen set items is a good sharp knife set. Don't skim on quality here, not only is a knife's job to cut what you want it to, but to do it quickly. Just because you want a superior knife doesn't mean you need fifteen of them. As long as you cover the basics, a chef, a paring, and a serrated, you should be able to cut everything you need. Another must have that you might find with your knife set is a pair of kitchen shears, you will discover these useful for all sorts of things from cutting chicken to opening food packages.
Next, to go along with your knives you will want two large cutting boards; one plastic board for meat and poultry and one wooden board for chopping everything else. Make sure you buy a board big enough 15" x 20" is fine.
Your kitchen set wouldn't be complete without measuring cups and spoons, especially for the baker or new cook. At least one liquid measuring cup and a set of spoons should be enough. Also nesting bowls provide space saving storage and easy to find sizes and should be included in everyone's cookware, along with a good size colander.
Now on to the small stuff. Tongs are a must, acting like an extension of your hand. Spoons in different styles like wooden, slotted, solid and deep for various uses and foods. Also don't forget spatulas for anything that needs flipped.
With all of these your kitchen set should be complete.
